Introduction

AAC (Advanced Audio Codec) is an audio compression format. It is dubbed the successor to AC3, and at times MP3, and offers several improvements. AAC supports multi-channel audio. It is quite common to find MP4 container files using H.264 for video compression and AAC for audio compression. The format is directly an extension belonging to the MPEG-4 standards.
