FourCC

FourCC (Four Character Code) is a coding system that is used to identify the type of video stream. For example, an AVI player will look up the AVI file's FourCC to determine what kind of video codec is being used and which decoder to use to decode the video. For example, the FourCC code for XviD is simply "XVID".
