Interlaced video images are the opposite of progressive video images. When interlaced videos are played back, at any moment, only half of the lines are being shown (a field, for example, only the odd or even numbered lines). For example, in NTSC broadcasts, there are 60 fields per second, each of these fields contain the odd or even numbered lines in a frame of video.
