Multiplexing (also known as mux) in digital video refers to taking the basic components of a movie, usually an audio track, a video track and possibly subtitle tracks, and then putting them together into a video container. It is the opposite of demultiplexing.

For example, taking a raw H.264 video stream, an AAC audio stream and then "mux" them into a single file using the MP4 container.
