XviD is an open-source video compression [[codec]]. XviD was developed partly in response to [[DivX]] codec, which used work produced by the open-source [[Project Mayo]], but went towards a proprietary path which did not please some people who were involved in Project Mayo. XviD aims to offer a open-source alternative to DivX.

XviD is an open-source video compression codec. XviD was developed partly in response to DivX codec, which used work produced by the open-source Project Mayo, but went towards a proprietary path which did not please some people who were involved in Project Mayo.
